Many of us do not spend the time or put in the effort to check if our roof needs maintenance. Only after it’s damaged, do we show concern and look for ways to repair it. Occasionally, you will discover things are much worse than you thought and it’s time to have your roof replaced. But before you get into the hassle of repairing or replacing your roof, make sure you get your roof inspected. When should you do so? Read on to find out:

Missing ShinglesMansfield TX Missing Shingle

Ensure that all your roof shingles are intact and in place. You need to keep a check on your roof shingles every month and especially after severe storms, rains or snow. Changes in weather play a great role in damaging the roof. Even if a single shingle tab is missing, call for an inspection immediately! Not calling could turn into thousands of dollars in interior damage fast.

Roof Age

Even though a roof may last between 20-40years, it does not mean it cannot be damaged before that time period. A routine inspection by a professional roofer should be done every three years, or immediately if there are visible signs of wear and tear or missing shingles.

Ventilation Decay

While a shingle is designed to last for decades, your ventilation will likely fail before that.  The majority of roof repairs today are due to leaks around existing ventilation. When you’re doing your roof inspection, be sure to look for exposed nails or screws and dried out and crack rubber parts. When you see these things be sure to seal them with silicone and if that does not work, it’s time to call a professional.

Shingles curling and buckling

Curling and buckling shingles is also a sign that you need to get your roof inspected. Inspect it yourself to determine if the slopes of your home which get direct sunlight are curling or losing granules. If this is the case, it means that the shingles are wearing out and you need to take an action right away!

Daylight through Roof Boards and Water Stains on Decking

Check your attic to see if there is any sunlight coming in through the roof boards and look at the underside of your decking for water stains. Water stains on the decking are one of the easiest ways to see if you have an existing leak. If you experience both or either of them, it is a sign that you need roof inspection.

Damaged Roof Valleys

If your roof shingles are falling apart or are missing, it definitely is a warning sign for an immediate roof inspection. Valleys are the most essential areas of a roof, and it is through the valleys that rain and snow flows into the gutters. If the roof valley is compromised, you might experience roof leakages.
